Event Summary

After the summer Sir Keir Starmer announced a new policy for Labour on Brexit: staying in the EU Single Market and Customs Union for a transition period and potentially thereafter. Some have called the party’s position “confusing” due to senior figures contradicting each other on the issue. Undoubtedly, Labour faces difficulties when it comes to constructing a coherent Brexit strategy. Seven in ten Labour-held constituencies voted Leave in the EU referendum, whilst the majority of its MPs supported remaining in the EU. In conversation with Sky News’s Political Editor, Faisal Islam, Open Europe will host Shadow Brexit Secretary Sir Keir Starmer at the Labour party conference in Brighton to examine what Labour’s Brexit plan really is.
