On September 12 the European Parliament voted in favour of initiating Article 7 disciplinary procedures against Hungary, citing a possible violation of EU core values such as the rule of law, an independent judiciary and the rights of ethnic minorities. The head of Open Europe’s Brussels office, Pieter Cleppe, discussed the result of the vote, as well as the general state of the rule of law in the EU, on Al Jazeera English Inside Story programme on September 13.
